So What Do You Want Me to Sound Off About?

I'm thrilled to announce that I'm hosting a weekly radio show at 10 p.m. (EST) on Thursdays at Radio For Conservatives.

I would welcome your suggestions for topics. What would you like to hear me talk about?

I hate doing this.

I strive to treat people as though I expect them to behave according to appropriate standards. I don't put "RSVP" on invitations, for example, because it insults my guests, as my mother taught me, treating them as though they don't have the minimal class necessary to reply without being prompted. (And who wants rude boors for friends anyway?)

That's why I've always had an open comment policy on this blog. I allow all sorts of annoying comments, from jerks who call me a liar or a f-----g idiot or make unchivalrous observations about my figure. I reason that these losers say more about themselves than about me. And so I delete very few comments, only those that are over-the-top obscene and contribute nothing of value to public discourse.

Unfortunately, this morning I spent more than an hour deleting such comments, and I just don't have the time for that.

So I'm activating word verification for comments. I really hate doing this. I hate treating my readers as though they need baby-sitting. I hate burdening responsible commenters with this extra step.

But the opportunity costs of deleting obscene spam have become so great that they are preventing me from writing about the moral hazards of making decent people pay for others' irresponsibility.

Senate Passes Spending Spree

The U.S. Senate has passed President Obama's $787-Billion spending spree by a vote of 60-38.

Three Republicans voted with the Democrats:

Olympia Snowe
Maine
(202) 224-5344

Susan Collins
Maine
(202) 224-2523

Old Man Specter
Pennsylvania
(202) 224-4254

If one of these three traitors had voted against the bill, it would not have passed.

House Passes Spending Spree

Although its Members didn't have time to read the bill thoroughly, the U.S. House of Representatives moments ago passed President Obama's $787-Billion spending spree by a vote of 246-183.

Please contact your Senators and urge them to vote against the mystery "stimulus" bill.

If you live in Virginia, your Senators are:

Jim Webb
(202) 224-4024

and

Mark Warner

Votes on Mystery "Stimulus" Bill Likely Today

Congress is currently debating the conference committee version of President Obama's $789-Billion bill to stimulate government growth. This bill represents the single largest government spending spree in history. Although the bill was not made available until late last night, the Democrats are poised to force votes on it in both houses today, meaning that Members will vote on the bill without having had time to read it thoroughly.

Please contact your Senators and Representative and urge them to vote against the mystery "stimulus" bill.

If you live in Virginia, your Senators are:

Jim Webb
(202) 224-4024

President Barack Obama's $838-Billion spending spree has passed the Senate by a vote of 61-37.

The following Republicans voted against common sense and the Constitution:

(202) 224-5344

Susan Collins
Maine

Old Man Specter
Pennsylvania
(202) 224-4254

Without two of these traitors, the bill would not have passed. Let's make them pay.

You Will Know Their Names and Phone Numbers

Moments ago, a cloture vote on President Obama's government stimulus bill passed the Senate by 61-36.

(202) 224-5344

Susan Collins
Maine
(202) 224-2523

Arlen Specter

1980 Reagan-Bush Debate on Taxes

This clip provides an excellent look at the delineation between sound economics and big-government hogwash that is still relevant today. The whole thing is well worth watching, but be sure not to miss what's at the eight-minute mark.

"Stimulus" Vote Possible Today

It's possible that the Senate will vote on President Barack Obama's government stimulus bill later today. So far, the Senators have dumped so much spending into this porker that it is now topping $900 Billion. When the interest that tomorrow's children would have to pay on this monstrosity is added, the final spending spree costs well above $1 Trillion. And it would diminish--not boost--economic prosperity.

Please contact your Senators and urge them to vote against this government stimulus bill. If you live in Virginia, your Senators are:

Jim Webb
(202) 224-4024

and

Mark Warner
(202) 224-2023

Bulova Defeats Herrity

Democrat Sharon Bulova has apparently defeated Republican Pat Herrity for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chairmanship by about 1,200 votes. As my friend and Jeffersoniad colleague Jim Riley points out, this is the second time within a month that a Republican candidate has finished within 1 percentage point of the Democrat candidate in Northern Virginia. With the Obama White House looking more and more like the Keystone Kops every day, hopes are bright for Republican victory in Virginia's November 2009 gubernatorial and other races.

Pat Herrity for Chairman of Fairfax Board

The special election for Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is today. Supervisor Pat Herrity is running against a tax-and-spend liberal. This promises to be a low-turnout election, meaning that every vote matters. While President Obama crashes to earth like Icarus faster than even I had expected, Fairfax County has a chance to take a stand for fiscal sanity. The polls are open until 7 PM. If you live in Fairfax County, please go to your regular polling place and vote for Pat Herrity.
